Before you head to the airport
Confirm where to meet, how long to allow, what to bring, and the price. Ask about clothing, footwear, identification, accessibility needs, and whether anyone can accompany you. The answers depend on the school and airplane.
Weather can change the plan. Ask how the school handles a postponed flight before you travel. Confirm your introductory-flight duration when scheduling, and review the cancellation policy on our rates page.
A briefing and a look at the airplane
Typically, the instructor will talk about your goals, explain the plan, and introduce the airplane. A preflight inspection is an opportunity to see how pilots check the aircraft and prepare for a safe flight.
You may hear unfamiliar terms. Ask what they mean. The objective is understanding, and you are not expected to know every switch or procedure on day one.
In the air
The instructor manages the lesson according to conditions and your experience. You may be introduced to basic aircraft control, orientation, and what the view looks like from a small airplane.
How much you handle the controls is determined by the instructor and the lesson plan. An introductory flight should not be treated as a guarantee of a specific route, altitude, or time at the controls.
After landing
A debrief is a chance to discuss what you noticed and ask about training. If you want to continue, talk about lesson scheduling, study, certification requirements, and cost. Ask whether the flight can be recorded toward future training.
